Contains the following types of materials: photographs, art prints of scenery. Covers the following war: World War II (WWII). General description of the collection: Japan miscellaneous photograph collection contains a wide variety of photos all pertaining to Japan and her people. There is an album of Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) training in Japan in 1927 and 1928, numerous photos of the Japanese Army in China in the 1937-1939 period, as well as, photos of the Japanese forces throughout the Pacific Theater of WWII, including photos in the Aleutians and the Philippines in 1941 and 1942. An album illustrates Ambassador Nomura's tour of the United States (U.S.) in February and March 1941. The collection includes many portraits of prominant Japanese leaders in the fields of art, science, literature, business, government and the military. Numerous photos of soldiers, sailors and Japanese citizens are included. A set of photos covers the U.S. Marines at Tarawa during WWII. There are albums in oversize boxes which deal with life in occupied Japan circa 1946; the Japanese Military Aviation School and its environs circa 1960; the Japanese Self Defense Transportation School circa 1960 and the Hokkaido defense posture in 1954. A folio of black and white and color art prints illustrates scenes in the Kyoto vicinity circa 1946.
